There are many reasons to use Where am I on Google Maps? It’s useful for sharing, saving, and much more. Not only can you share your location, but you can see where you’re located right now. In the same way, you can find landmarks and other important locations in the area. Here are a few things to keep in mind. Here’s how to use Where am I:
App automatically detects your current location
If you have a recent Android phone, you may have noticed that the Google Maps app has trouble determining your exact location. This is because it uses various parameters, including Wi-Fi, cell towers, and your browser’s location settings to determine your current location. To resolve this issue, you need to enable location services for your phone. This option is available under the Settings menu. If you do not wish to enable this feature, you can turn off the Developers Option in your phone’s settings.
If you’re not connected to the internet, you may find that Google Maps will stop updating the map. To fix this, open the app, tap on your profile photo, and select Settings. You’ll need to disable Wi-Fi Only, otherwise the maps will not be updated. You can also try to install the Google Maps Go app, which will detect your current location and provide directions to a place of interest.

Using Google Maps is extremely convenient, but you must learn how to find your current location on the map so that you can plan ahead. Pressing the Your location button in the bottom right corner of the map will turn it blue. You can also view your current location by tapping on the cursor icon in the map.
Shows street name, road name, building name
Wherever possible, use the zoom function in your browser to see the names of streets and buildings. Hover over the map to bring up the zoom function. Click “+” or “-” if needed to zoom in or out. You can also zoom in and out to get a better view of a street. Zooming in can also be helpful in finding street names. If you’re unfamiliar with the names of streets and buildings, you can use the street name search tool to look them up.

Shows nearby landmarks
As promised, Google is adding landmarks to its map. Currently, you can find these landmarks on maps of Amsterdam, Barcelona, Dubai, Florence, Istanbul, Kuala Lumpur, London, Los Angeles, New York, Sydney, Tokyo, and more. Hopefully, you’ll get to see them soon! Here are the other cities where landmarks will soon be available on Google maps:
Live View – This feature is currently only available for Pixel phones, but soon will be available for Android and iOS devices. Live View provides directions and distances to nearby landmarks. Landmarks are easily recognizable places like museums and iconic buildings. The feature will roll out to more cities and countries soon. This new feature was first unveiled last month on Pixels, but will be coming to other devices soon. In the meantime, you can enjoy it now.
Location-based directions – While you’re looking for a place on Google Maps, using Messenger to contact someone nearby will allow you to see their location on the map. With Google Maps, you’ll also be able to see what they’re doing, and get directions from there. Just be sure to update your maps on mobile devices, as updates might happen more frequently. This feature is great for travelers and locals alike!
